Chemical resistant solution installed for a leading Aerospace Manufacturer

Stonhard's ultra-chemical-resistant bund lining solution has been installed at a leading aerospace facility in the North of England.

Stonchem®878, a highly cross-linked, fibreglass reinforced vinyl ester lining system with a silica-free top layer, has been laid to resist possible spillages of hydrofluoric and nitric acids at significant concentrations.

Stonhard completed the second phase of work for the site in its new metal treatment department where aerospace parts are cleaned before further processing.

It was a return to the site for the install specialists. The first phase was completed in 2015.

Following initial proposals and a thorough review of the client’s needs, including an external effluent area, Stonhard's chemical-resistant solution was recommended, along with  Stonchem®656  a highly cross-linked, novolac epoxy system, which was also installed to provide key slip-resistant qualities.

“One of the key challenges during the six-month project was to work in a live production space so our work area had to be tented and a safe environment maintained within the area".

“Since the hydrofluoric acid used in the treatment processes can attack silica, we installed a silica-free version of the Stonchem®878 to provide an extra level of chemical resistance and security.”

The flooring installation was part of a major construction of a completely new metal treatment line at the aerospace facility, requiring collaborative working with a main contractor, structural engineers and the site team.
